Good afternoon everyone! Welcome to another edition of Basics with BITS. My name is Brad Snyder. I am Vice President and chair of the presentations committee here at BITS which, of course, is blind information technology specialist. If you are not yet a member of BITS or you’d like to learn more about BITS, we invite you to visit our website. That’s bits-acb.org, B-I-T-S-acb.org. We also have an announcements only email list that you could join, member or non-member, And you’ll find out information about upcoming public community events and our BITS chat, which is also open to both members and non-members. We do that every Friday and Saturday night from 8 o’clock p.m. Eastern. You can subscribe to that list by sending a blank email to the following, bits-announce+subscribe@groups.io. That’s bits-announce+subscribe@groups.io. And now with all that out of the way, let me introduce our presenter for the day. We have Debbie Armstrong. And tell us what you’re going to talk about today, Debbie. Hi, everyone. I am the chair of the BITS Education Committee. And one reason you might want to join BITS if we have a lot of really interesting educational opportunities coming up in fall. We’re going to be teaching office, some more advanced office. And in the spring, we’re going to be teaching some things like Google Forms and other basic HTML. So if you’re interested in some more advanced topics, joining BITS can be really, really useful. But even so, we are committed to helping you with the basics. And before I talk about today’s presentation, I want to let you know that in my first pre-recorded demonstration, I may be triggering one of your smart devices. So if you have an A-Lady and you don’t want to trigger her, you might turn your privacy mode on now. And the same is true with your Android or your iOS device, since I’m going to be demonstrating all three, and you don’t maybe want them to trigger on their wake word. So while you’re getting the chance to shut your devices up or put them in a drawer or take them in the other room. My Android phone just kept hearing me. I finally had to hide it behind the TV in the living room because it kept wanted to listen to me. But while you’re shushing your devices, let me tell you what we’re talking about. I have spent a little time editing them so that they have only good information and no snafus. We are going to be answering the most common question today that is asked on ACB Media, and can you guess what that question is? It is, was this recorded? How do I get access to the recording? Or, oh my goodness, you went through all this material, and I want to go back and hear I heard that last week was really good, but I missed it. Is there a recording? So that is the question I’m going to answer today. Now, all ACB community recordings are on ACB podcasts, but not all ACB community calls are recorded. The individual facilitator can decide whether they want to record, have their call recorded or not. It is their choice. So, if they choose to have their call recorded, that recording will show up on the ACB Community Podcast. Now, there are seven ways to listen to ACB Community Podcasts, and I’m going to go over only five of them today tend to spend a whole hour on ACB Link because it is such a neat app. It’s actually one of my favorite ways to listen to ACB Media, both the live streams and the podcast. But when I started preparing a demonstration on ACB Link, I realized that I wouldn’t do it justice unless I devoted a going to cover are podcast apps. And you can get apps for your smartphone or tablet that will let you listen to podcasts. And they include apps like Pocket Casts, Apple Podcasts, iCatcher, Overcast, all this great stuff. But you know what I’m going to do is I’m going to join the basic iPhone class one week, and I’m going to ask people what podcasting apps they use. And then I’m going to go back, make sure I know how to use them myself. And I will do another hour on how to access all these different podcasting apps and what their features are. So again, ACB Link and podcasting apps are great solutions. They’re just not what I’m going to cover today. Today, I’m going to start with the easiest solution for listening to a podcast. Let’s suppose you’re not really swift with your computer or your computer’s busy doing things for your job and you still want to listen to a podcast, then you might want to listen to a smart device. And so I have a prerecorded session here on accessing podcasts with smart devices. Okay, Google, play the ACB Advocacy Podcast. I look for the ACB Advocacy Podcast, but it either isn’t available or can’t be played right now. Sometimes when you use a smart device, your mileage may vary. And usually you can only hear the last podcast unless you learn the specialized commands needed to play a previous podcast or search for podcasts. The other problem you might have is that the smart device wants to know what app you want to use to play the podcast. Okay, Google. Play the Freedom Scientific podcast. Okay, which app do you want to use? Spotify isn’t installed on your device. You can install Spotify to start listening. But usually, once you’ve told the smart device what app you want, it will play the podcast you have chosen. Google is canceling their podcasts, so this may be the reason that I couldn’t get it to work. Hey Siri, play the ACB Community Podcast. Hey Siri, stop Again, it’s going to be the latest podcast that you hear and there are so many episodes and so many podcast names that you may have to do some trial and error with your smart device to figure out what you want it to play. And then you need to play it regularly so that you can keep up with the most current episode, if that is your desire. Alexa, play the ACB Advocacy podcast. Playing ACB Advocacy update from Amazon Music. Here’s the latest episode, Convention Recap. You’re listening to the ACB, at UCFJ. So as you can see, using a smart device, whether it’s a Google device, an Amazon device, or an iOS device, can be one of the easiest ways to play a podcast. Because all you really need to do is use your voice. But it’s also the least flexible way. Next, we’re going to explore how to do this on the Victor Reader stream. All right. So the only other thing I would say about using a smart device is that sometimes it can be hard to get a particular podcast. There are ways, if you have the smart device connected to a particular app, to ask it to search for a particular podcast. But that can be a bit of a struggle. And it’s something you need to Google for, get on the web and read how to do because it can get complicated. And the commands change. So something that may have worked last week won’t work again. But if you want to get the latest episode for thousands of podcasts, your smart device is really the easiest way to go ahead and do it. Now, I’m going to move on and play my little recording on how to access podcasts on your Victor Reader stream. So here we go. In this pre-recorded segment, I’m going to show you first on the Victor Reader Stream 3 how to set your menu choice for the number of podcast episodes you wish to retain. And then I’m going to show you how to do the same thing on the Victor Reader Trek, though I say it is a stream second generation because it’s very similar. And in both cases, when I’m accessing the menus, I’m pressing key 7, which is the menu key on both devices. Here goes with our demonstration. Menu. Downloaded podcast episodes to keep. 5. And you can choose how many downloaded podcast episodes to keep. So you press the pound key, which is the button on the lower right. 5. And now you can left and right arrow to decrement or increment. 4, 3, 2, 1. Manual only. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5. And so I was moving with the left arrow or the 4 key to go backwards, but you could also use the right arrow or 6 key. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. And when you get to the number that you want to retain, you just press the pound key to confirm. Selected. Downloaded podcast episodes to keep 10. All right. Now, let’s suppose you want to do the same thing on the Victor Reader Stream second generation or truck. That’s also pretty easy to do. Menu. Wireless. Validate connection. Bluetooth. Airplane. General. Cancel all current internet radio. Humanware playlist. English North America. Podcasts. Downloaded podcast episodes to keep. Eight episodes. And you just press confirm here. Selected. If you want it to be eight episodes, or you can press the right arrow. Again, it’s the six key. Nine. Episode. Ten. Episodes. Manual only. 1. Episode. 2. Episodes. 3. Episodes. 4. Episodes. And when you get to what you want to keep, you press confirm. Selected. So it’s really easy to tell the VictorStream how many podcast episodes you want to keep. Okay, let’s suppose now you are ready to add the ACB podcast of your choice. We’re doing this on the Victor Reader Stream 2. I’m going to hit the Bookshelf button, which is number 1. Bookshare. Zero. Books. Search for Bookshare Books. I’m going to hit it again. Internet Radio. 1. Playlist. 1. Humanware Playlist. English North America. I’m going to hit it again. References. Zero. Files. Search on Wikipedia. I’m going to continue to hit the 1 key, which is the Bookshelf key. NLS Bard. Zero. Books. Search for NLS Bard books. And one last time. Podcasts. One. Podcast feed. One. Victor Reader Streaming HumanWare Information North America. HumanWare. Six. New episodes. Now, you are going to hit the six key or the four key. Four goes backwards. Six goes forwards. to move through the podcast on the device until you get to add new podcast feed. And I’ve only got one here, so that’s going to be pretty easy. Add podcast feed. And when I get to add podcast feed, I press the confirm key, which is the pound sign. Title search. And I have three choices. I have title search. Browse by category. Browse by category. Humanware suggested podcasts. English North America and the HumanWare suggested podcasts and now I need to press the pound key to start the text entry process. Enter text to search. And I’m going to type ACB. So first I’m going to hit the two key once. A. Then I’m going to hit it three times. C. Then I’m going to hit it twice. B. And now I’m going to press confirm. Please wait. Found results. 49. Select a podcast feed and press confirm to subscribe. One. ACB Community at Radio. And ACB Community is the one that has all of the community calls. So that’s where you would hear the training podcast that we’re doing now once the volunteers get the recordings up. That’s also where you will hear many other ACB Community calls, including the iPhone basic class and so much other good stuff. Let’s hit the right arrow to see what else we have from ACB. Two. They find Coro. Ugh. That’s not ACB. Three. Main menu. Agap Radio. And that, of course, is their technology show. Four. Agap Braille Forum and eForum. American Council of the Blind. That’s the ACB magazine. Five. Agap Advocacy Update. American Council of the Blind. There’s the ACB Advocacy Update. a very good podcast to subscribe to if you want to keep up to date on all of our advocacy efforts. Six. A conference and convention. American Council of the Blind. And these are older convention podcasts. These are not the most recent ones. Seven. A focus. Technology. American Council of the Blind. And last year, ACB started doing the convention podcast as something called ACB Focus. So this technology podcast will have the latest stuff from the convention when the volunteers are done editing it, and anything related to technology will be under ACB Focus. Eight, UGG events, American Council of the Blind. ACB events. Nine, UGG reports, American Council of the Blind. ACB reports. Ten, Toby for the holidays, ACB. And that is not our American Council for the Blind podcast. 11. ACB Convention Audio Described Tours American Council of the Blind 12. GDUI Juno Report ACB Radio 13. ACB Crafters ACB in Action ACB Radio 15. ACB Focus, American Council of the Blind. ACB Focus, American Council of the Blind. And that’s another one from the conventions. It’ll have last year’s convention health and wellness information. And it will be having this year’s. 16. ACB Focus, Audio Description, American Council of the Blind. And this is the audio description track that happened at both last year’s and this year’s convention. Again, we may not be seeing everything from this year’s convention quite yet, because the volunteers are still busy editing it. 17. ICFocus Entertainment, American Council of the Blind. Entertainment. Again, this is an ACB Focus podcast. 18. ICFocus Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, American Council of the Blind. Another ACB Focus podcast on diversity, equity, and inclusion. 19. Focus. Human Interest. American Council of the Blind. 20. Tuesday Topics. Paul Edwards. American Council of the Blind. And here is Tuesday Topics. Now let us suppose, there are 49 of these, I’m not going to go through them all, but let us suppose you really want to subscribe to the Paul Edwards Tuesday Topics podcast. I need to do that because whenever Paul is on, I’m at work, so I can’t listen to him live. So to do that, all I’m going to do is press the pound key. So that’s how you do it on the stream. And this is basically the same process on the Stream 3 as it is on the stream second generation and the Victor Reader track. Okay, I’ve unmuted myself. I would like a confirmation that you can hear me now live. We can. Excellent. Okay. I have one more recording I’m going to play. I do want to say about this that the stream is often one of the easiest ways for people to listen. But sometimes it can be very hard because there are so many podcasts trying to find the one you want. And that’s why this last presentation is important. Because if you use your browser, you can get the actual names of the podcast and find out what is on them before you actually subscribe to them. And this presentation is going to be about 15 minutes. So let me just quick ask how much time I’ve got. Okay. So after this next presentation, then I’m going to be taking questions. So I’m playing this last prerecorded presentation. Again, about 15 minutes on accessing these podcasts using your browser. And here we go. First, we’re going to go to http://www.acbmedia.org. That’s http://www.acbmedia.org. And that’s going to take us to the comprehensive website for all ACB streams and podcasts. We’re going to start by maximizing our window. And to do that, you want to hit Alt Spacebar and X if you are on Windows. And for some reason, sometimes not all of the ACB Media page will appear if your window is not maximized. So if you think you’re missing something, that may be the problem. Now, I’m going to start by navigating by headings. First, I’m going to look at my title bar to make sure I’m in the right place. ACB Media Network, Google Chrome. And that’s where I’m supposed to be. So if we navigate by headings, we’ll see that the major sections on this page are as follows. Home Heading Level 1. Join us online and discover the ACB Media Network Heading Level 2. Ways to connect to ACB Media Programming Heading Level 3. Amazon Alexa Enabled Device Recommended Heading Level 4. PC Browser Access Recommended Heading Level 4. Smart Device Access Recommended Heading Level 4. Victor Reader Stream Access Heading Level 4. Dial-in Access for Programming Originating in Zoom Heading Level 4. Alternate Dial-in Access Not Recommended Heading Level 5. Important note, Heading Level 4. Upcoming events, Heading Level 2. Quick links, Heading Level 2. Follow us, Heading Level 2. And as you can see, there’s nothing in the heading list about podcasts. Now, if you’re interested in listening to ACB Media, I would suggest that you explore this entire page. But my goal today is to show you how to access just the recordings that you might be interested in. And to do that, you need to go to Podcasts. So we’re going to arrow down until we get there, and then we’re going to stop because I’ll let you explore the rest of the page on your own. Heading level one home. Heading level two, join us online and discover the ACB Media Network. The ACB Media Network is your one-stop site to access the ACB Digital Media Library. List of free items. Bullet, find what you are searching for quickly. Weather link podcast. And there is the first link to podcast. If you looked at your links list, you would actually see a link to podcasts several times on this page. They all take you to the same place. So we’re going to press enter here on podcasts to get to the page of podcasts. Enter ACB Media Network linked podcast. Now I’m going to navigate this page by headings, but then I’ll go back and show you how to get to a particular podcast. First, just looking at it by headings. That’s always a good way to see what major sections are. Podcast Heading Level 1. ACB Media Network Podcast Heading Level 2. ACB Conference and Convention Podcast Heading Level 3. ACB Podcast Heading Level 3. Community Podcast Heading Level 3. Technology Podcast Heading Level 3. Podcasts of Plenty Heading Level 3. ACB 2021 Conference and Convention Podcast RSS Feeds Heading Level 4. Share this, Heading Level 3. Like this, Heading Level 3. Quick Links Heading Level 2. Follow as Heading Level 2. You can see there is, again, a lot of stuff on this page, and you might want to take your time to explore it. But I’m going to take a minute here to describe what some of this stuff means. And doing that, I’m going to navigate partially by headings and partially by arrowing down. And, again, you should spend some time getting familiar with this page if you want to regularly access some of these recordings. ACB Media Network Podcast Heading Level 2. Welcome to the podcasts that are a part of the ACB Media Network. Heading Level 3 ACB Conference and Convention Podcasts. Link ACB Conference and Convention. All prime time and general sessions from the convention will be posted here. Link ACB Convention. Audio described tour. Link ACB Convention. Exhibits. Link ACB Focus. Audio description. Now a little explanation. Each of these links is to a separate podcast page. And when it says ACB Focus, that’s something they started last year. All of the sessions that were produced by independent affiliates are hosted under a particular ACB Focus. So we also have some more ACB Focus events following here. Link ACB Focus, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Link ACB Focus, Education and Employment. Link ACB Focus, Entertainment. Link ACB Focus, Health and Wellness. Link ACB Focus, Human Interest. Visited Link ACB Focus, Technology. Now, I went to the technology link earlier to see what was available, and I’m going to press enter on this. So I can show you the individual page associated with ACB Focus Technology. Remember, what I’ve shown you so far are all separate pages with different podcasts. There are so many of them here, and they have tried to group them by category to make it easier for people. So I’m going to press enter on ACB Focus Technology. Enter. Podcasts. ACB Media Network. Main region. ACB Focus. Technology link. So let’s start looking at what’s here. And these individual podcast pages can be navigated by heading. So that’s what I’m going to do. That’s the first podcast here. That’s the next heading. 202307051600 explore the levels of low vision technology heating level 2 link that’s the next podcast 202307051300 unfolding ira’s roadmap heating level 2 link all right now here’s another secret to know about these podcasts they are listed in order of the date that they were broadcast not the date that they were edited but the date they were broadcast so we’re going to go back to the first heading 2023070 to 1300 cclvi vendor showcase hiding level 2 link and we’re going to arrow down to read what it says here september 1st 2023 oh no it’s september in 2023 and you of course were hoping for some recordings for 2024 little bit longer. It’s just the way it is when we have volunteers doing jobs that can’t do you can see that for the convention podcast, we have everything from last year, but we don’t yet have everything from this year. But remember I said there were lots of podcasts. Well, the ACB community podcasts are a completely different section. So we’re going to go there now. So I’m going to hit the back button first to go to the major listing of all the podcasts, because we were at a page with just one specific podcast, the ACB technology focus. so i’m going to hit the back button podcast acb media network and now i am going to continue to move down by headings this is the general podcast page until i get to acb community acb podcast hiding level 3 community podcast hiding level 3. and here are the community podcasts again another set of volunteers is editing these so maybe we’ll be lucky and they’ll be have done some of the 2024 ones visited link acb community link acb crafters link acb diabetics in action link art ones you want actually if you are interested in community podcasts like this one or the iPhone basic class, they’re all under ACB Community. Visited link ACB Community. So we’re going to press enter on this link. We’re at the general podcast page. Now we’re pressing enter to go to the specific podcast page for ACB Community. Enter. Podcasts ACB Media Network. Name region. ACB Community link. And again, we are going to navigate this page by headings. 2-0-2-4-0-8-0-5-2-thousand office space heading level 2 link. And this is the latest podcast as of this recording that was posted to this page. So we’re going to read some of the details by arrowing down. August 8, 2024. So this is August 2024. So this is pretty recent. This one, the volunteers are able to keep up with the community podcast and get the recordings up on this page. OfficeSpace Explore Your Windows Computer with Tyson Ernst, Access Technology Educator for the Washington Dept of Services for the Blind, and Learn the Ins and Outs of Your PC. Topics covered will include the Windows Desktop Environment, File Explorer, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from a screen. Reader Perspective. Each session will build. Link more on 202-408-052000 OfficeSpace. And they only have part of the description on this page because you have to hit the more to go to the individual page for that podcast. So now we’re three layers deep. We were at a podcast page for all the ACB podcasts. Then we went to a page for just the ACB community podcast. And then we went to a page showing just the most recent ACB community podcast. And now we’re going to press enter to get to a specific podcast. Enter ACB Community, ACB Media Network. And this page actually shows you the full description of the podcast and has a play button. Heading level 120,240,805, 2000 office space. August 8, 2024. Audio start. Play button. And if you press this play button, the podcast will begin. We’re going to do that, but then we’re going to stop it immediately. And we’ve gone ahead and stopped it. If you want to download the podcast to your computer, that’s a slider that you can control to jump forward or backward, you know, fast forward and rewind in the podcast. up down slider 100 and that sets the volume mute button and that does what you’d expect show more controls more options button menu but show more media controls is where you want to go to download it so if you press enter on that enter download media menu one of two and it here if you press enter again you can enter leaving menus show more media controls button menu download it to your PC. There’s one other thing I would like to show you. I want to show you how to search for podcasts, because you can see that this gets really tedious going through all these layers of pages. But the top of every one of these ACB media pages does have a search field. So primary navigation region. And that’s where you want to go the primary navigation region, which is the top the page list of six items visited link home link calendar link media list of five items nest link and that’s what you want past all of that is open search bar so if you press enter on that site banner region primary navigation region search edit blank and you’re in an edit box so i’m going to press enter enter to go into forms mode and i’m going to type transportation because that is a word that has a lot of a podcast associated with it and once we type transportation we’re actually not going to get any other podcasts only ones that have the word and we’re going to press enter search results for transportation acb media network and we get all those other pages we’ve seen except this one it’s narrowed down to transportation search results for transportation heating level 1 2 0 2 2 0 8 1 7 untangling transportation taming transit in your town to 2 4 0 5 3 0 untangling transportation transit advocacy toolbox a da requirements for public transit part 2 heating level 2 link 2 0 2 4 0 4 2 5 untangling transportation transit advocacy toolbox a da requirements for public transit part 1 heating level 2 link 202 403 to 8 untangling transportation part 1 of transit advocacy toolbox hating level 2 link 202 402 to untangling transportation setting the table for 2024 hating level 2 link and i’m closing this recording by telling you that you can press enter on any of those and and you’ll get a page for that specific episode of the transportation podcast. But unlike the categories you see on the pages we looked at before, this time you’ve set your own category as transportation. So you may see transportation that is connected with a particular affiliate, a particular community call, or a particular convention presentation, or an ACB advocacy update. All right, you should be able to hear me again, and I think it’s time for questions. We can. Excellent presentation. And your first question is from Mary Carla Hayes. Abby, this is an excellent, excellent presentation. I just want to tell you that And either I’m getting better or I don’t know what happened because I’m not very smart, as you know. But what I wanted to say to you is one thing I did miss. When you went and you said if you want to download them, I don’t know, either I missed it or you didn’t say it, but I’m assuming you tabbed over through those fields to get to the, you know, the more options in the search button. Is that correct? I actually just arrowed down, and if I was on a phone, I’d swipe down, but I just arrowed down until it said more media options. Then I pressed enter on it, and that pops up a little menu. It has two choices on it, and I forget what the second one is, but the first one is download. Oh, so there isn’t any tabbing involved. Well, you could do it with tab. I find it a little more efficient to arrow because you’re going to have to trigger the forms mode to get the little menu to pop up. Oh, okay. Well, thank you very much. And again, excellent presentation. It’s really hard to cram all this into one hour, and I’m not even talking about ACB link this time for that reason. Abby, go ahead, please. Hi, Debbie. Great presentation. so I’m just curious I already subscribed to that like the Sunday edition and main menu live are those programs included in the ACB community podcast yes they are they’re part they are well they’re part of ACB podcast but ACB community is its own sort of section so it has all those extra programs so you don’t really need to subscribe to those separately you just subscribe to ACB community and then you get everything is that right no acb community tends to be all the like this one and some of the other ones are more uh you know less less informal like sunday edition is actually a program it’s right it’s actually broadcast and it’s on the community that’s why i got confused okay it’s not it’s part of acb media not part of acb community oh okay all right and what was the other one you subscribed to is it a main menu okay so main menu again it’s more of a formal show okay and so it’s part of acb media right you’ve got three layers ACB media streams, you know, there’s 10 streams. So there’s like all sorts of stuff there. And then you have ACB community, which is more informal. That’s, you know, all of Cindy’s community calls that show up on the ACB community list. Okay. All right. I know it’s kind of confusing, isn’t it? Yes. Okay. Well, thank you for clearing that up, Debbie. I appreciate that. You’re welcome. Angel, go ahead, please. if we don’t get Angel Agnes go ahead please and we’ll come back to you Angel if you can get in hi Debbie this is a great presentation and I have a question if I say I did a podcast search and I wanted guide dog users and I put that in there. And then when the pod and hit it and all that, when the podcast come up, then when I hit on the podcast and I want to download it, I would just go through the same steps you mentioned before. That’s right. So you search for guide dogs or GDUI or something. And then you get a page that’s your category. It’s not their category. You have chosen what you want to hear. And so you get all the search results. And there may be more than one page. I didn’t have time to explain that you could keep doing next and keep going. But so you find the one you want. You press enter on it. And now you have a page that’s devoted to that episode, just that one episode. And so you can hit the play button, but you don’t have to hit the play button. You can arrow past the play button to show more media controls. you press enter on it a little menu pops up and the first choice on that menu is download you press enter on download and it’s downloading to your pc and that’s a good way to get individual episodes if you don’t want to subscribe to the whole gosh darn thing um and a thought i’d like to share is on the acb conference and convention list they did put up the general sessions Right. The general sessions are always the first to be done because it’s ACB business and it’s important people keep up to date with it. And the affiliate podcasts, the ACB focus, which are the different affiliate presentations are always the last ones to go up because they’re not necessarily ACB business. Will they send a list? Maybe you don’t know the answer to this, but to tell you in which of the focus groups that different groups are going to be listed? No, you just have to kind of search. I just go in every week and look and see what’s up there. Like I’m interested in technology and health and wellness. So like next week, I’ll go back and look at the health and wellness and see what’s up. All right. Thank you much. And as I said, this was a great presentation. Thank you. Marissa, go ahead, please. Hi, Debbie. Great presentation today. My goal is to get more familiar with searching for podcasts and editing podcasts on Victor Reader track. So I was wondering, how do you unsubscribe from a podcast on Victor Reader Stream? You hit the three. You’re on the podcast. You’re listening to it. And you can hit the three key. And it’ll say unsubscribe from podcast feed. And then you’ll hit confirm. And it’ll tell you the name of the podcast. And then you’ll hit confirm again. So you can have it paused or you can have it plain and you just hit that three key. And again, so three is sort of a rotates through a bunch of choices. One of them is unsubscribe, which is the first one. And then the next one is like download. So you can like download it to your SD card. And so but, you know, if you keep hitting three, you’ll get to unsubscribe. And then you’ll have to do confirm twice because the first time it just gives you the name of it. so you can be sure that’s what you want to unsubscribe to. And then you hit confirm again. Thank you so much. And again, great presentation. You’re welcome. Dan, go ahead, please. Okay, Debbie, great presentation, of course. Regarding the ACB Media page, and I want to find all of the material presentations about JAWS. on acbmedia.org in the search box what do i type in vispero v-i-s-p-e-r-o and they have been very good about putting the word vespero in every description so that it’s and you will get a really nice page with all of the vespero stuff and there’s a lot of them so you’ll have to keep getting next, next, next to get to each new page. And there’s like a lot of episodes there. Okay. Thank you. Stephanie, go ahead, please. Stephanie’s still muted. And she’s currently our last hand, Debra. All right. What’s my time like? Wow. I didn’t think I was going to be able to get through all of this in enough time. But a couple other things I can tell you about. I’m not going to demonstrate it. I’m just going to yak because I always goof up when I demonstrate. Each of these episode pages has a next button. And so if you go and you can’t find it with the headings, you have to like search for the word next. And when you get to next and you press it, then you get earlier in time. So each time you hit next, you are going back in time. So it is always the most currently posted podcast that you’ll see on the first page. Also, I made a mistake, and I was listening to myself. But, you know, I’m not a professional presenter. So I’m just a volunteer like all the rest of y’all. And the mistake I made was I said that the dates are the date it is broadcasted. And that’s completely wrong. It’s the date that the volunteers posted it. But each of these podcasts, the very first line of their description does show the date that it was actually streamed. And one of the things I kind of forgot to say in the beginning is for people who want a little more background on what podcasts are. So back, I think it was 2001, the very first iPod came out. And this was a big silver thing that had a hard disk in it. I think it was about 150 megabytes. And this was a whole new thing. It was like the first portable digital music player. And before that, we’d had Walkman, you know, cassette players that played music, but we didn’t really have any sort of digital music players that were there were there were a few sort of attempts to make one but they weren’t really popular and then when Apple came out with iPod which was basically a little box with a hard disk and a headphone jack and a screen and it was not accessible I mean you could learn how to use it I mean if you remembered how to rotate the wheel and push the buttons, but it didn’t speak or anything. And the thing about this digital music player is it took the world by a storm and everybody was getting iPods and teenagers were listening to their tunes on it. And it was so cool. And you could buy tunes from the Apple store or you could use iTunes. Remember, iTunes was a new thing. So you could use iTunes and you could rip your CDs to your iPod, and it was really neat. And then amateurs started putting together these broadcasts. But because they were amateur, they, you know, weren’t really on the radio, and they were the sort of thing that you could download with iTunes to your iPod, and that’s why they were called podcasts. So they kind of got started in 2001, 2002, And I have some of the really early, very first podcasts. They’re really amazing. As people, volunteers all across the country realized they could create their own broadcasts and make them available. And in those days, the internet was kind of slow. So, you know, people would connect their iPod to iTunes and they would subscribe to podcasts and they’d go to bed at night. And all night long, these things would be downloaded into their iPod. And in the morning, they’d grab the iPod and pop it in their car or pop it in their backpack if they were a teenager going off to school. And they would have all their podcasts to listen to. So the original thing with podcasts is they weren’t really streamed because the Internet wasn’t that fast. People typically downloaded them and then listened to them later. And you can certainly still do that, but you can also nowadays stream a lot of podcasts. And so that’s what’s kind of interesting about the history. Do we have any other questions? We do. Doc has his hand up. Doc, go ahead, please. I’m listening. Doc and Stephanie both have hands up. Yeah, am I unmuted now? Yes, sir. Yes, we can hear you. I was saying, Debbie, this is probably the best presentation I’ve heard. Oh, well, thank you. Thank you. I’m not a real access technology specialist, but I think listening to these recordings is so important for training purposes. Well, the way you presented it and the rate of speech and et cetera was great. Question, though, I’m not quick enough to get all of the notes down. Is there any way to get a step-by-step copy of the procedures that you went through today? Well, I never tried writing it up. It might be, I don’t even know where I’d put it if I wrote it. The problem with ACB community is it’s sort of a verbal media. It’s not like a magazine where you can read articles. So, I mean, this is the sort of thing that would be good in one of the affiliate newsletters, I suppose. So people could contact me if they wanted me to write it up for their newsletter, but I’m not going to write it up for an individual. But I would do it for an affiliate newsletter for sure. Yeah. that’s fair enough next question And Stephanie, can you unmute? Yes, I can. There you go. Go ahead, please. Yeah, I really like the way, you know, you had your series go to a certain ACB podcast. Because I had, my Google used to do that, but now my podcast is gone. It don’t play the podcast anymore. Yeah, well, Google will still do it through Spotify. but I deliberately did not install Spotify just so I could show what would happen if you didn’t have it installed. Cause I wanted to show people errors as well. Yeah. I don’t know how you can be able to link the account to get to Spotify. You basically install the app on your Android device and then you tell it when it, the first time you say, Hey Google, play the ACB advocacy update or whatever you want to hear. it’ll say what app do you want and you’ll say spotify but you have to have it installed and yeah but i like i said i deliberately got rid of spotify just so i could show what kind of error and you will get an error also um you will also get that error with siri by the way if you don’t have an app to play it or it’ll it’ll say what what app do you want and if you want apple podcast you can say podcast. And then after that, it’ll be happy and that would be nice. Okay. Any questions? Guess not. Thanks for showing me that. That’s wonderful. Okay. Well, I have and we don’t have any other questions. No. All right. Well, I just want to review the seven different methods for listening to podcasts. I know somebody wanted step-by-step directions. And one of the problems with step-by-step directions is these things change all the time. The names of podcasts change. So you really are better off exploring. But again, you can go to the podcast tab on the ACB link, which is an iPhone app. And I will talk about that one day. You can also go to your Apple App Store, type podcast in your search field, and look for all the different apps that are out there. Overcast, iCatcher, Pocket Cast, there’s just a lot of podcast apps. And so you can try some of them out. And then those were the things I didn’t cover. But the things I did cover were going to the acbmedia.org page, finding the link called podcast. There are several different links on that page that say podcast. They all take you to the same place. Once you’re there, you’re looking at a list of every single ACB podcast. If you want a particular one like Sunday Edition or Advocacy Update or Braille Forum or ACB Community, you’re going to select that one. And then you’re going to go to a page that just has the podcasts that are under that name. So if you went to ACB community and you wanted to find basics with bits, you’d have to keep looking through all the headings until you get to basics with bits. Or suppose you wanted transportation and you didn’t want to try to find it on the ACB community page. You would then have to type transportation into the search bar, which is near the top of the page. And then you would just get the transportation category. But either way, you’re looking at a page with the category you’ve chosen, and you’re going to be seeing all the different episodes related to that particular podcast. Then to go to a particular episode, you’re going to press enter on that specific episode, read its description, hit the play button, or you’re going to hit the more options button. A little menu is going to pop up, and you’re going to pick download off that menu and download it to your PC. And then the very first way I covered was to use your three smart devices, your Siri, Hey Google, Hey Siri, OK Google or Alexa. All three of them will play podcasts to you, but they’ll play. You have to know the specific name of the podcast. You have to say play and the name of the podcast you want it to play. And then sometimes it may ask you what app you want to use. And at that point, you have to give it the name of the app. But once you’ve done it, It remembers it. It won’t ask you again. So that’s my summary, and I think we’re almost out of time. Five minutes. All right. Well, I’m ready to close now. All right. Well, thank you, Debbie. That was a wonderful presentation. I’d like to thank everyone for joining us today and remind everyone that Basics with Bits, we do this every twice a month on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. So we’ll be back two weeks from today on August 24th, and we’ll have another great presentation. So thank you, everybody, for joining us. And Mercy, go ahead and take us out. Thank you. Thank you.
