The BITS Organization

Blind Information Technology Specialists (BITS) mission is to empower blind and visually impaired individuals by providing a supportive and inclusive environment for technological growth and development. We welcome individuals at all levels of technological experience and will provide a safe, respectful, and welcoming community. BITS promotes the use of accessible technology to enhance everyday life and career opportunities, and to advocate for equal access to digital information for all. Together, we strive to create a world where technology is a bridge, not a barrier, for the blind and visually impaired.

BITS Core Values — BRIDGE

Two blue silhouettes, one male and one female, each holding a white cane and walking in opposite directions on a blue bridge. Below the bridge, the word "BRIDGE" is written in large capital letters. Underneath that, in smaller capital letters, the text reads "BLIND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALISTS." The overall theme is a connection or support system for blind individuals in the field of information technology.

At BITS, our values form a BRIDGE—because technology should connect us, not divide us.

B – Belonging

Everyone is welcome. We meet people where they are, no matter their experience level.

R – Respect

We always treat each other with courtesy, kindness, and dignity.

I – Inclusivity

We embrace diversity in every form, creating a place where all voices are heard and valued.

D – Devotion to Community

We’re more than a group—we’re a family. We support and celebrate each other’s journeys.

G – Growth

We encourage learning at your own pace, helping members gain skills and confidence over time.

E – Empathy

We listen, understand, and care about each member’s unique experiences.

BITS holds a chat session on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 PM Eastern Time open to the public, for anyone interested in joining us. These chat sessions are informal opportunities to get together and talk about whatever members and friends want to talk about.

If you become a BITS member, you’ll enjoy exclusive product discounts, such as Joplin Cloud and Remote Incident Manager (RIM). We also offer free educational courses, giving you the chance to expand your knowledge and advance your skills. In most cases, our courses are free of charge. However, some of our courses will have a minimal cost to cover class material and other related expenses. Plus, our expert mentoring team is ready to provide free tech assistance, offering guidance and solutions to help you overcome any tech-related challenges.
